The five daily prayers

The five prayers

  • Fajr — before sunrise (2 units / rak‘ahs).
  • Dhuhr — after midday (4).
  • ‘Asr — late afternoon (4).
  • Maghrib — just after sunset (3).
  • ‘Isha — night (4).

Prayer times follow the sun, so they shift through the year and by location. A prayer-time app or your local masjid will give you the exact times for your area each day.

Start by learning the names and times. The physical steps come next — one rak‘ah at a time.
