InstagramThey say when you reach your thirties, your own mortality begins to register, a realization that everything, including ourselves, will one day perish. What they don’t often mention is what happens to those left behind. For a year, every single day, I looked for my mom. Driving to work, reaching to call her. When my kids made me laugh, wanting to record for her. In stress, seeking to vent to her. How do you find someone no longer here? The answer is clear, you find them in everything. When love is real, you see your beloved everywhere. At times this brings joy, at others comfort. But most present is the deep feeling of not enough. After replaying videos just to hear her laugh or see her hug my siblings, I can’t help but want more. I remember learning about the Prophet’s ﷺ Year of Sorrow and wondering, could grief really last an entire year? After a year since my mother’s passing رحمها الله, I say it feels like it’s only begun. With such loss he ﷺ endured, how could one year be enough? From others who’ve lost, I’ve learned a bitter but beautiful truth: grief never stops. And why should it? Why stop seeing my mom in my daughter, or referencing her in class, or sitting in memory lane as we build new ones in her honor? I once prayed for the weight of grief to be lifted. Today, I pray it remains, but as fuel for hope of a blessed reunion. May grief be a means of greatness, InshaAllah.

InstagramHappy 1st Birthday with Allah habibti Mama Every moment without you is missing you. Every gathering without you is incomplete. Every day without your voice, smile and hug, hurts because of your absence. And every day Alhamdulillah we thank Allah for every second we were blessed with you in our lives. We keep waiting for this dream to end, to wake up sitting next to you, turns out this whole world is like a dream and you are the one that woke up. Today you would’ve been 56, but Allah chose to take you from this world at 55. Today we would’ve gathered and given you extra hugs and flowers and maybe a cake and some gifts, but InshaAllah with Allah you are celebrating so much more. We used to celebrate you on this day, but now we celebrate you every day. We celebrate you in how we turn to Allah, in how we stay connected with each other, in how we take care of our family, in how we treat the people around us. Now, we celebrate you by carrying everything you’ve instilled in us in every part of our lives. I still don’t know, what a world without you is, I still don’t know, how a future without you a part of it will go, but I know that as long as Allah swt gives me life, I will inshaAllah always do my best to live a life that benefits you InshaAllah so that when we meet again bidhnillah, you are proud of me and sharing the khair you received as a result of our humble efforts. I love you more today mama than ever before, each day that love increases. You may not be physically alive with us, but our love for you is more alive than ever, til we are forever together in Jannah Ya Rabb.
