PLANNING PHASE

When you are considering going Hajj in 2026, here is what you need to know TODAY!

Estimated dates for Hajj 2026

  • Arrival in Saudi Arabia: May 17 - May 21.
  • Some budget packages may arrive earlier.
  • Days of Manasik / Rites of Hajj: May 25 - May 29/30.
  • Earliest return/departure: June 1 unless the official itinerary says otherwise.

Dates are estimated

These dates are based on the Islamic lunar calendar and may vary because of moon sighting, package selection, airline routing, and operator logistics. Always follow your official package itinerary on the Nusuk Hajj Portal.

LANDING IN...

MEDINAH

Starting your journey in the Prophet's city:

If your stay begins in Medina, you will usually have a few days to spend at Masjid Al-Nabawi before traveling to Mecca.

There is no need to enter the state of ihram while on the airplane or during a layover before reaching Jeddah if your route begins with Medina. Men do not need to purchase ihram clothing before arriving in Medina; it is often more convenient to buy it there, which can reduce packing at home.

Preparing for arrival in Medina is similar to preparing for any other travel destination. There are no special physical items required for Medina itself, but it is important to review the etiquette of being in the presence of the Beloved Messenger ﷺ and to prepare spiritually and mentally for Hajj.

Medina first is usually gentler

For many pilgrims, starting in Medina allows time to recover from travel, orient yourself, attend group sessions, and prepare before entering the more intense Mecca and manasik phase.

MECCA

Starting your journey in the Holiest place on earth:

If your stay begins in Mecca and your flight lands in Jeddah, you will usually need to be in a state of ihram before crossing the miqat, prior to arrival in Mecca. This guidance assumes many pilgrims are performing Hajj Tamattu', but pilgrims should review the listed Hajj courses and follow their scholar/group leader for fiqh details.

For men: as soon as you put on ihram clothing, apply a generous amount of unscented Vaseline to the thighs and groin area to help prevent severe chafing. This can prevent significant pain and difficulty walking later.

Ihram timing matters

If your route begins in Mecca, clarify before travel when and where you must enter ihram. Do not wait until landing if your itinerary crosses the miqat before arrival.

Prevent chafing early

For men in ihram, unscented Vaseline applied before long travel and walking can prevent severe thigh/groin chafing. Keep it accessible in your carry-on.
